News: Women's Health Education Seminar a Success
A new program, coordinated by Gete Hakenso, wife of ERM Director Dereje Shiferaw, was initiated last month in Hosanna, Ethiopia. From December 15-17, 2008, twenty women attended this Women's Health Education Seminar. The women are all key leaders in their local churches and respected members of their communities.
The four basic topics covered were: Personal and Family Hygiene, Nutrition, Mother and Child Health Care, and HIV/AIDS Prevention. The topics were covered by lecture, Q & A, and small group discussions, with time taken out in the mornings for devotion and worship.
Later this month, these women will come together again for a half-day seminar on the topic of Abortion. At that time, each seminar attendee will receive a copy of the helpful book, Where There Is No Doctor- A Health Care Handbook, which they can use in their ministries back home.
The goal of the Women's Health Education program is to train responsible women already in leadership positions within their communities to educate other young women, wives, and mothers on the topics covered in the seminar. It is the hope that this knowledge and training will also open doors to the Gospel in areas where the doors have been previously closed.
